11 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT YOUR EYELASHES, NUMBER 3 WILL LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS AND NUMBER 10 YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT!

For many of us, beautiful, well-groomed eyelashes are one of our indispensable beauty basics, but what do we know about our eyelashes?

  1. Their life cycle is from 4 to 8 weeks: each eyelash follows a different cycle. Factors such as their composition, age and diet influence them. For this reason, the duration of eyelash dyeing and perming depends on the eyelash’s life cycle.

Although eyelashes are constantly being born, growing and dying, it is very important to treat them with quality products and protect them when necessary. For example, if you are one of those who enjoy using UV rays, always cover them, because you can run the risk of dropping them earlier than expected.

  2. They are made up of protein and water: eyelashes are almost entirely protein, specifically keratin. They are only 3% water. It is very important to react in time if we see that they are weak or we have less hair. There are eyelash regenerating products that not only strengthen and regenerate them, but also prolong the effects of the dye and perm if we use them regularly.
  3. The only animals that have eyelashes are mammals: hadn’t you noticed? Well, that’s right, for mammals, eyelashes have the function of detecting changes in the environment, a bit like whiskers for cats. The camel is the animal with the longest eyelashes, measuring up to 16 cm in length. Without a doubt they are a great tool when it comes to protecting your eye from the strong desert blizzards.
  4. They are home to hundreds of mites: don’t panic! These microscopic beings have a very important function: to clean the dead cells and to keep the follicles clean. We have them all, since it is not a question of hygiene, age or sex, they are simply there and protect us from infection, a more than reasonable price just for letting them live in us.
  5. They fall every day: as we said before, the eyelashes have their cycle but they do not all go in unison. Every day we lose between one and five eyelashes, but we don’t notice it because we have many of them in a more advanced stage of growth.
  6. They are different from each other: at the top we have between 150-200 eyelashes, while at the bottom we only have between 70-80. In addition, the length and shape of the upper ones is much more pronounced and striking than the lower ones.
  7. Why when we add make up to our eyelashes we cannot avoid opening our mouth? Don’t deny it, it happens to ALL of us. The explanation is very simple: as it is such a small and delicate area when we manipulate it, we pay all our attention to it, making the facial muscles relax and the jaw also relaxes, it opens irremediably by itself.
  8. Long eyelashes are not better: according to the current beauty canons we think that the longer the eyelash is, the more attractive and feminine it is. However, let us not forget the main function of the eyelashes, which is to protect the eye. Scientific studies have shown that for this task to be carried out most effectively, eyelashes should measure a maximum of one third of the width of the eye.
  9. Eyelashes grow faster than the scalp. While the cycle of an eyelash renews itself in a maximum of 90 days, the scalp can take up to 6 years.
  10. The person with the longest eyelashes in the world is a man: sorry girls, but it is indeed a gentleman who holds the title to the longest natural eyelash, at 6.9 centimetres. To give you an idea, the average length of an eyelash is usually 1 centimeter.
  11. We have been taking care of them and their appearance since 4000 B.C. Without a doubt we know that the Egyptian people dedicated a lot of effort to exalt beauty and delay the effects of aging. What not everyone knows is that they were the first to use instruments to style and care for them, although the first modern product was created in France in 1913 by the Rimmel brand.
